What I have in mind for 2009
(Check out the photos below)
· A monthly fishing column packed with local fishing information, fish recipes (share yours with me via email) and member’s fish stories
· Email updates and fast breaking fish news
· A Sand Dab Fishing Tournament – We’ll take 2-3 boats (each boat will have a fishing person to help you catch fish) to my secret spot around platform Gina on a Saturday to be determined. We’ll compete for the first fish, the most fish or anything else that comes to mind. Then it’s back to the club while the fish are cleaned and given to the renowned Chef José for fresh appetizers during our little awards ceremony. This will be our basic “recipe” for all local tournaments.
· Rockfish Tournament · Trolling Tournament
· VYC Sportfishing Trip – If we have enough interested parties we can hire one of the local sportfishing boats (my fishing buddy knows many of the captains) and get out a little further and all fish together.
· Catalina Fishing Tournament
· Squid Fishing Tournament – Catching squid is a blast…and they’re the best bait you can put in the water.
· Spontaneous “When The Fish Are Biting” trips will be announced via email to the more serious anglers who want to venture out a bit further.
· Participation in CIYC and PCYC fishing events – Both clubs have active fishing programs and I’ll contact them to see what we might be able to work out. I know that PCYC sponsors a Shark Tournament…now that would be fun!
· Saturday Seminars – My fishing buddy Brett Anderson and I would be happy to put on a couple Saturday afternoon seminars on what to fish, when and how with emphasis on technique and equipment. I’ll give Chef José some of my Red Snapper to cook up for appetizers during our presentation.
That should keep us out of serious trouble for a year, well, at least a little busier having fun! Send me those emails. If you don’t have Internet access, call and leave a message at 805-676-1745.
Send your fish photos to the office and I will gladly post them.

Fishing is worth any amount of effort and any amount of expense to people who love it, because in the end you get such a large number of dreams per fish. Ian Frazier, The Fish's Eye |
