Hot off the press - the ASBCYC 2010 Race Calendar

To VYC Members – January 2010
Calling all Race Committee Volunteers
The 2010 sailboat racing seasons starts in a couple of weeks. We have a race committee for the opening event,
but we will be needing lots of help in later races and especially for our big event in September, the Santa Barbara
Channel Challenge & Ventura Cup.
Race Chair Stan Whisenhunt is looking for volunteers who will help on an off the water during 2010.
Please respond to Stan at
Swhisenhun@aol.com if you would like to be on his e-mail list for race committee activities.
Important note:  The Southern California Yachting Association (SCYA) will be putting on a Race Management
Seminar on Saturday, Jan. 23, at Ventura Yacht Club. Stan encourages those who plan to be active race committee
workers in 2010 to attend.
Following is the key information about the seminar:
The seminar will start at 8 a.m. and will end about 5 p.m. Included will be a continental breakfast, lunch, all class
materials and a test. There is a fee of $45 for those who register by Jan. 18 and are U.S. Sailing members.  The
fee for non-U.S. Sailing members is $75 for advance registration.  Those who register after Jan. 18 will pay an extra $5.
Participants are asked to bring a copy of the Racing Rules of Sailing and a completed copy of the Basic Race
Management Study Questions. These questions for the seminar are available from the U.S. Sailing website at
http://www.ussailing.org/racemgt/documents/RMStudy-Basic.pdf.
Participants can register in advance by going to the SCYA website and clicking on the race management seminar button.
